I am now in the quilting stage. I am doing a feathering directional texture design. It can be a bit tricky at times. I have to stop and think about where I am going.
I found myself getting a little sloppy tonight. So I decided to put it down for tonight and come back to it tomorrow. (I think I'm just sleepy....). I also am having trouble with a lot of my pieced seams. I think I need to work on piecing, and perhaps, piece an entire quilt with open seams. I found that with seams to one side, I am getting "stuck"(while FMQ), so I jerk on the fabric, causing stitches to go where I didn't intend! I am also getting a few puckers on the front. Probably from all that jerking and tugging!
Anyway, I have to get this sucker done by May 12. That's the baby shower. I have one more dilemma. I used Moda's Vintage Modern charm pack for the piecing. I though I could get yardage of the fabric for the binding, no problem. But, NO! The yardage won't be released until early May. I called the FatQuarter Shop. She expects it to ship out to the store on May 4. Maybe she gets it in a couple of days. Then maybe I get mine in a couple of days. Whew! That is cutting it waaaaaaay close! I may have to find something to coordinate for my binding. I guess I will figure it out when I get the quilting done.
One last problem. I miscalculated when I would be done with this quilt! has anyone else done this. Well, problem is, it's on my quilt!
I know, it's May. Not done! I know the pic is bad. I know it's upside down(rotated it, but still uploaded this way). But I am tired, and my pillow is calling my name. The label is obviously staying. It WILL be done in May, and it's close enough;) That's what I have been up to......goodnight. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
What a pretty quilt - this will be a treasured gift indeed. How did you make that label? I finally finished a quilt that we get to keep at home - I wrote on the binding with special fabric pen, but your label would be so nice to have for more newer quilts.....
ReplyDeleteThanks! All i did to make the label is cut a piece of fabric and freezer paper bigger than a standard sheet of printer paper. Ironed the freezer paper to the fabric, THEN cut it to paper size. Install paper into you paper so the fabric side will be printed on. Print your label. You can set your ink with a hot iron, but this is not good enough!!!! It will still bleed. So I bought a product at my local quilt shop called Retayne. It was 3 bucks. I put water in a tupperware container big enough for my fabric sheet. then added 1 tsp. of Retayne. Mix it well. Carefully slid the sheet , after taking off the freezer paper,in the water mix. I soaked it for 30 min. but the longer the better. Then I laundered the label as normal to check to see if it faded to much. It was good to go so I cut to the size I needed. hope this helps!
DeleteI meant install paper(fabric) in to your printer
DeleteThanks for this terrific tip! I will try it as soon as I can - which will be awhile since I'm sorta slow at being ready for labels...! Your label looks so nice - a nice way to finish the quilt.
DeleteThis is a precious quilt - both the fabric and the quilting are gorgeous! I stopped putting the month on my quilts - once in a while, the year is off when I'm in December though. I think you'll make it! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteAfter this I decide the year is all I need too. I also thought of , but what if it's December..haha oh well, close enough!
DeleteWow! Love the feather quilting!! I know what you mean about the yardage. I carry most of the Moda precuts and they always arrive way ahead of the yardage. For your binding, the colors are the same as Bonnie & Camille's earlier line, Ruby, so you could use one of those instead. Or get a layer layer cake, cut it into strips and piece a bunch of them together for a scrappy binding :-) And we won't tell that you finished it in May instead of April. Close enough!!

haha, thanks for not telling on me! They will never know! And thanks for the info on the Ruby line!!!! This will help a lot!!! :)
DeleteHi Danielle,
ReplyDeleteYour quilt and feathers look awesome. I just have a suggestion for your binding issue. But not sure if this would be time consuming.
You could cut the charm squares in half and then piece them like you would with jelly rolls. And then use them for your binding.
Otherwise, if you can find Jelly rolls piece them like you would for coins quilt and use it as scrappy binding. I think it will look great for the baby quilt.
Don't sweat about the label. I guess it should be fine ;).
Cheers,
Malini
Thanks, Malini! I used every last charm in the quilt already. I thought about buying a layer cake or some other pre cut, but they are so expensive! I never thought about using a jelly roll for binding, though. Good tip!
DeleteSimply beautiful quilting! I pull too hard sometimes too, but in the end it always looks alright even though it may not be as perfect as I would like it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I won't sweat the puckers. I know they will disappear when I wash it! :)
