I haven't had time to blog lately, but I thought I should post that Hadley's Quilt is done! Got it done late Wednesday night.
I used a Vintage Modern charm pack and Kona Snow. Every charm was put in the quilt with 38 on the front and 4 on the back. Unintentionally, the design looks like an "S". I just wanted a couple of super-sized granny squares and use as many charms as possible. The baby shower is tomorrow, and I have it in the washer now to get all that crinkling loving. I am crossing my fingers that none of the red bleeds on all that white! I pre-washed all my fabric, so we will see. Edit: I prewashed the Kona Snow and the binding, but NOT the charms! That's why I was worried! But nothing bleed. Whew!
The quilt measures 50X60in. Not a standard baby quilt, but at least Hadley can use it well in to her kid years:)
It was a fun little quilt to make and I got loads of FMQ feathers practice. This brings my total finishes for this year to 4! Woohoo!! Not bad. Not bad at all for me;)
I love the quilt you made! Beautiful from colors to quilting and piecing. Great work :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteThe quilt is beautiful and the quilting is awesome! I know everyone will love it tomorrow! Have fun! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteThank you! She loved it. I think everyone was surprised I made it! :)
DeleteI love the Granny Squares in this quilt. I didn't see the S at all until you mentioned it. You quilting is fantastic! You are doing better on the FMQ challenge than I am.
ReplyDeleteIf only her name started with an S, haha. What I saw of your FMQ looked great to me, but you will get to where you want to be in no time. Just keep practicing. I have only been FMQ since last September and I feel I have come a long way in a fairly short time:)
DeleteI love your quilt. Your FMQ looks awesome! Wow, that's a big quilt. So, the biggest I have done so far is 36x50 inches. How long did it take you completely do the FMQ? I'm just curious. When I did my wall-hanging for February challenge(18x48 inches), just the borders took be about 6 hours I guess. But that was my first attempt at feathers. It must have been a real good practice quilting the feathers.Love it!
ReplyDeletecheers,
Malini
I'm just guessing it took 15-20 hrs. I worked on it 4 different times. The scale I quilted on is what is easiest for me( about an inch scale) but next time I will go bigger. It's probably what took me so long. But I think it would have not been quite so stiff if had gone a little bigger as well.
DeleteIf you are ever concerned with that again, wash it with a dyer's soap called synthrapol. It affixes itself to any unattached dye in the water and prevents it from attaching to other fabrics. You can get it online... www.dharmatrading.com I actually use it as a prewash for all my fabrics, but if you have precuts, it can reduce your angst in washing!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It all worked out, no bleeding. I thought about something like that, but I'm not sure how to add it to my front loader??
DeleteI love this quilt! Its absolutely beautiful, and the FMQ looks amazing. Except for the Hearts and Feather whole cloth we did with Leah, I wanted to try it for so long... I plan to start a new quilt top this week, and think I should give the feathers a go...
ReplyDeleteYou should try this design. I was very fun to do and great practice!

ReplyDeleteI'm impressed! You are really good at FMQ! It almost looks like you appliqued the charms on a white background :) Nice job! Glad it didn't bleed. I have never used charms before, but I have some that I won and I'm afraid I can't use them if I wash them because they will become misshaped.
ReplyDeleteThe main Problem I encountered with the charms, is the pack i had weren't all square. :( I must have gotten as irregular pack, but I made it work:) I probably won't use them again unless I just want to make a very quick baby quilt. That probably won't happen because simple is not in my nature. Not that I wouldn't like to make things simpler on myself, but it seems that complexity is more in my nature:P Luckily, my main concern, the bleeding, didn't happen:)))
ReplyDeleteI love your design, Danielle. And your feathers are awesome!
