Piecing Problems

This is the Hello Kitty Quilt I have been working on. Does any one have this problem? In every piece I quilt I have at least one, if not more, seams that have flipped over during the piecing process. I am NOT going to rip it out and re-piece it, but it bugs me. I thought I was being very careful and conscious of what I was doing. I guess not. Does anyone else have this problem and/or what do you do to prevent it. Do you rip it out or just leave it.

  1. Not sure what anyone else dose, but I just leave it. It sort of gets hidden when you iron it. My dad is a tailor and he told me to cut the seam a little so it lays flatter if it bothers me that much. I've never had a problem since cotton isn't very bulky to begin with. However, I bet there are people who rip it out. Iron it and see how it looks.

  2. I just leave it as well, it usually flattens out ok. This happens to me when I have too many seams on the bottom and the feed dogs grab them the wrong way. I've been able to avoid this by putting the piece with the most seams on top, and putting a pin through every seam on the bottom to keep it in place.

    1. I should do that, but I'm kinda lazy about pinning

  3. Very maddening! I'll usually leave it if it irons flat enough. And your FMQ is inspiring--really like the sesame seed!!

  4. My old Janome had a slightly raised needleplate that used to catch seam allowances and flip them over as I was sewing. Took me a while to catch on and to flip them back before I sewed them. Now I have a flat needleplate, but I still manage to flip over my seams on occasion. Whether I rip out the stitches and re-sew it depends on where it is or how bulky it's going to be if I leave it. If I can get away with it, I'll just clip the seam under the stitch line, as Rosemary's dad advised, to make it lay flat.

    1. Well since its just a quilt for my daughter, I will leave it. She won't mind..haha. If I ever get through a quilt with out flipping a seam I will be amazed!
