Splendid Ovum-Blogger's Quilt Festival

This post is loooooong overdue! I finished my Splendid Ovum(EGG) Quilt a week later than I had hoped. I was shooting for Easter, but better late then never!

Here are my two helpers for a quick snapshot. Drew was more interested in photo bombing then keeping the quilt straight.

The quilt measures 68X77. The biggest quilt i have made yet. And even with all of the negative space, it took me longer then I expected! I think I worked on it religiously for 2 months! All of those eggs were quite time consuming!

When I finally got-er-done,me and my husband had a serious conversation. It went something like this:

hubby: Is that quilt for me?
me: Do you want it?
hubby: Did you make it for someone?
me: No, nobody is getting this quilt, but I was going to enter it in a quilt show.
hubby: That's fine, I'll take it after that.

Well, that made me feel awesome! Haha! I think it may have had something to do with the fact that it's the biggest quilt I've made and the backing fabric I chose (Philip Jacobs-Foxglove) is soft as butter! He loved the weight of the quilt! It also made me feel a little guilty. I have been meaning to make him a quilt, but the right one hasn't hit me yet. Little does he know, I have fabric put back for him:) It's OK, he deserves 2 quilts!

Zoey even likes it!

I'm entering the Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative side. I will be entering the Large Quilt Category. Mine is 290 in. around.

If you get a chance, go check out the many beautiful quilts at the Blogger's Quilt Festival!

  1. love your quilt & the quilt name! I have also had that same conversation w/my husband about some quilts. The one I made for him he seems to like, but he really prefers two different quilts that were made with other destinations in mind. One is now on the couch in his office & the other hags in the dining room.

    1. It's funny how they surprise us with their taste. I never would have thought he would like an Easter egg quilt, but he did. I think it's less about the design and more about the utility for him. It could have giant pink polkadots and as long as it was soft, comfey and didn't make him to hot, he'd be ok.

  2. Ohhh, it is gorgeous! And your quilting is perfect for it. I can see why hubby wants it! If he changes his mind..., I'll send my address. Years ago, when I was making a wedding quilt for our oldest, my husband said if anything ever happened to that marriage, he wanted the quilt. About 3 months before the wedding, the couple called it off. Husband got the quilt but has never asked for another. ~Jeanne

  3. Beautifully done! I love the colors in the eggs. I'm always amazed at which quilts my family decides need to stay at home with us. Hope your guy enjoys it.

    1. Thanks! I was going to go in the pink-red-orang direction, but the blues and purples is what I had on hand. :)

  5. Great eggs. What a nice way to play with a variety of patterns. Isn't it nice when your family appreciates your quilts?

    1. Thanks! Yes it is! I made my son a quilt for Christmas a couple of years ago. He didn't like how stiff it was. It wasn't really that bad, he just liked his brothers better. But that is when I quit using Warm and White batting. Come to think of it, I used Quilters Dream for the first time on this quilt. Maybe that's why my husband likes it so much. It drapes very well!

  9. What a great compliment that your husband claimed the quilt! My hubby's sulking because the kids have multiple quilts and I still haven't finished the monster one for our bed (oops!)
Love the eggs, such a fun design and they look amazing with all the negative space.

    1. Thank you!!! I'm glad he liked it too. It gives me an excuse to keep it. there is always some event that comes up that needs a gift that I'm like, " I will just give them this quilt"
