I took some more photos of the last quilt intended for Cameron. Now it will be Drews.
Now here comes the heart break. After taking my not so great pictures, I decided to give it a first wash. Then dried it. I went to fold it and noticed these little green spots. I was perplexed as to what happened. So I checked my washer. There lay a green bic pen. It must have been in the load before which was a couple of blankets that were on the couch. At this point I have no choice But to give it as there is no time to make another one.
I have started Cameron's quilt now. The top is complete but I had a tough time deciding how to place the rows of colors. I have my favorite but the majority had theirs. I will reveal in the next post what I went with. Which one do you like??
Note* I am not switching who gets what quilt because of the stain. I made that decision beforehand!! I love all of my children equally!!!
I published form my Iphone because my pictures are full in Picasa Web albums as I stated in my last post. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do at this point, but I know posting from my phone is not fun and I can't put the pictures where I want them. But, at least my phone will let me upload pictures!
I'm linking up with Leah Day:)
I'm posting from my IPhone again because if you read my last post, I have ran out of space in my Picasa Web Albums do pictures. I still haven't decided how to address the issue, but I know I won't enjoy posting from my phone Indefinitely.
Oh no! Have you tried blotting rubbing alcohol on the stains - I can imagine there are lots of little spots ;( I feel for you and wish I could help. ~Jeanne
ReplyDeletehaven't tried that. I'm worried nothing will help since it's been dried, but worth a try I guess. It could have been worse. there is 3 spots on the front, and one on the back. If you look at the whole quilt overall, the spots are hard to find.
DeleteI am devastated for you Danielle. Perhaps you could try eucalyptus oil to help with the stains. Eucy oil is my go to for everything from goop to stains. You have nothing to lose by trying it. Good Luck - I hope you have some success. I love the first option for Cameron's quilt - the lightening strike effect is more graphic (in my view).
ReplyDeleteI might try that after I give it to him. Here is my fear. I am a custodian at a school so I have much experience trying to get ink spots out of carpet. In my experience, when you work on an ink spot, it spreads. It may lighten, but the spot becomes bigger never to fully come out. Right now, the spots are small enough that they aren't really to noticable.
DeleteMy daughter drew on one of my favourite fabrics with a blue ink pen. I tried a remedy from the Spotless book - not thinking it would work, but it did. It sounds crazy but rotten milk might be your best friend. You have to let the milk rot (or rot it with some vinegar), then spread it over the ink stains, leave to sit for a half hour or so. Rinse out and wash that section with some detergent and some gentle hand scrubbing. Then of course, wash it properly to get the rotten milk smell out! I know it sounds weird - I was such a skeptic but it worked beautifully (apparently it does not work on red pen however).
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful quilt though! So is the zig zag one! Great colours!
Hmmm, sounds interesting. I might have to try just out of curiosity. Thanks!
DeleteWow, you are having a bit of a hard time...I'm inclined to leave it, because from experience these things become bigger and more noticeable.
ReplyDeleteI like the first zigzag arrangement. This is going to be a great quilt (as is the other one, of course)
That's what I'm thinking. Plus, it has been dried in the dryer. It may be a wasted effort anyway.
DeleteOh, I really sorry to hear that. Hmmm that's not fun at all.
ReplyDeleteI really feel for you, since I had mishaps like that and it really breaks your heart.
By the way, I like your first arrangement. It looks more modern and gives a radiating feeling. Whereas the second one you might have seen that before. This is just my 2cents.
Take it easy!
It makes me wish I had never washed it. But you know that is hard to do;)

ReplyDeleteSo sorry Danielle. Hopefully you will find something to remove or at least lessen the marks. I love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat! I hope so too!
DeleteThat happened to me once with a length of cream fabric I was prewashing in a laundromat . Ink. Stains everywhere. I used hairspray, soaked the spots and rewashed it...they came out. I think it is the alcohol that dissolves the ink.
ReplyDeletethat sounds promising! Thanks!!
DeleteHi Danielle
ReplyDeleteHave you tried putting the ink in multiple places on a similar cloth, drying it in the dryer and then trying the different suggestions on each section. This should give you a good idea of which suggestion will remove the ink and which will make the ink spread. Use the most successful option on the real quilt. No damage done then.
Hey that's a great idea!!!! Thanks:)
ReplyDeleteOh man- I hope you can get out the spots. That's seriously awful.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too! Thanks!
DeleteOh I feel your pain! We've had a number of washing machine disasters around here too! So sorry this happened!
