Blood Sweat and Tears

I didn't link up for UFO Sunday this weekend for 2 reasons. I'm furiously working on my Christmas quilt quota, and I have FINISHED all of my UFO'S!

OK, I said furiously. How furiously? I knew it would happen sooner or later. It did. As I was slicing and dicing fabric.....

.....this happened

Yep. Rotary cutting accident. It bleed like the dickens. A quick trip to Walmart was in order to pick up band aids. When you have children at home, you never have a supply on hand. The moment you buy a box causes a band aid obsession that even a box of 100 can't surpass.

So I got home and got doctored up. I was determined to get this pieced together.

This is my #4 Christmas quilt for Cameron. I got going on the piecing and then this happend.

A little scissor snipping incident. I didn't let that detour me. I still managed to get 3/4 of the top pieced. I used the quadrant method to piece it. Just Like Leah Day's quadrant method of quilting, I applied it to the piecing. It made the rows much more manageable. This is Christmas quilt #4 out of 5 needed. Obviously I need to slow down a little so I don't mutilate myself. But I need to keep a steady pace.  Wish me luck that I don't have any needle incidents!

  1. What you have done is beautiful! Now take care!!!! It would be nice to have 10 fingers left when you get all 5 quilts done! ~Jeanne

  2. Wow, you are productive....and here is me. I just spent the whole morning piecing one block together for the Blockbase Quilt Along. I like the quilt for Cameron...yes, you better slow down, before any major mishaps. Today I nearly drop the cutter and this with me sitting there barefoot...I did slow down after that.

    1. Don't think I cut and pieced the latest one all in one day haha! It's been a 5 day process, so I'm not really that fast. I just set a goal each day. Sometimes I met it, sometimes not. I've had a near miss dropping the cutter before too :/

  3. Opps! Feel better soon. And maybe take a break? I think the universe is trying to tell you something.

  4. Oh no! You got to slow down and take care of you first. Don't try to rush into finishing up quilts.

By the way, I really love your WIP quilt. I did quadrant piecing with my groovy quilt and did really find it much less stressful than piecing in rows/columns all at once.

Great job at other quilts too :-).

    Take it easy.

  5. Oh I did the snip with the scissors the other day too. Took ages for my finger to stop bleeding and I had to put band aid on it as I kept knocking it and making it bleed again! On a positive note Cameron's Christmas quilt looks great :-)

  8. I had to stop for a minute and check that I was really on your site. I haven't seen so much blood on a quilting blog...well...ever! Slow down, breathe and reconnect with your hands so hopefully they won't be holy (holey) by xmas!

  10. Danielle, congratulations on finishing your projects! They are gorgeous, but please, please be careful with your hands!! They are indispensable for quilting!

I have been seeing a lot of modern quilts, like the first two in your post and am thinking I would like to try one. Definitely a great arena for lots of FMQ.

I have also bought some black kona solid to make a quilt similar to your practice quilt, and Leah's Batik Beauty. I will be making it whole and not QAYG. I have a good amount of left over batiks and thought this would be a great way to use them up, and also to go through Leah's quilt along from the beginning.

I have been busy paper piecing for months and months, and so missed most of the quilt along. I guess I could try multi-tasking like everyone else! :)

    Great job!!

    1. I'm sure it will be beautiful! Leah is such a great teacher. It will be well worth going back to the quilt along!

  11. What treasures those quilts are. Cameron's is proof positive that the simplest of blocks can make the most stunning of quilts when value and direction are tweaked. But OUCH! I've stabbed and snipped myself but so far avoided the rotary cutter slice. Wishing rapid healing and finger/blade awareness in the future.

Okay, after I pulled myself together, I have to say all the quilts look great. I love your #4 quilt despite how dangerous it is proving to be ; )

    1. I was more worried about the blood getting on the fabric than the fact I was bleeding!!:)

  14. Your quilts are gorgeous and NO MORE UFOs is AWESOME! And ouch... I am so paranoid about cutting myself with my rotary cutter. Actually I should be more careful with my gardening shears as I've nipped myself good twice.

    1. I was really into that show(can't remember now) that I was watching while cutting. I can't say I am surprised I did it:/
